WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL KICKBOXING ASSOCIATION
Rating Guidelines
WIKBA ratings are international in focus, and they are an
evaluation by the WIKBA and its various advisors
of the fighters in the various countries
using the following criteria:
1. Won lost record
2. Percentage of wins by stoppage
3. Number of total fights experience
4. Strength of opposition
5. recent levels of activity
a. Fighters who fight several times per year may be favored
over less active, but equally skilled fighters.
b. Fighters may drop in the rankings after 9 months of inactivity
c. Fighters may be removed from the rankings after one year of inactivity
d. Fighters who are pregnant or known to be seriously
injured are removed from the ratings until they actually fight again
e. fighters are presumed to be retired after 2 years of inactivity
Other considerations:
6. World or regional titles held.
7. Current rankings by other sanctioning bodies are considered
if the fighter has been active in the previous twelve months.
8. Head to head competition is used only to break ties
where all other factors previously mentioned are
deemed to be nearly equal.
9. Fights where the winner fights without padding or
head gear weigh more heavily in the rankings, than a fight where
protective gear is worn by the winner.
10. The longer the scheduled fight duration,
the more weight will be given to the fight's result.
Fight duration is measured by time-not number of rounds.
Fight duration is weighed more heavily than number of rounds
because the WIKBA believes the longer the fight lasts, the
better indicator it is of the two fighters relative strengths.
11. International fights are given more weight than local fights
12. Fighters are ranked in no more than 3 wt classesExamples of how fight duration is measured:
a. 5x3 = 15 minutes duration
b. 4x3 = 12 minutes duration
c. 5x2 =10 minutes duration
d. 3x3 =9 minutes duration
e. 4x2 = 8 minutes duration
d. 2x3 = 6 minutes duration*
e. 3x2 = 6 minutes duration
f. 2x2 = 4 minutes duration
g. 1x3 =3 minutes duration
h. 1x2 = 2 minutes duration*2x3 is favored over 3x2, because the WIKBA believes three minute
rounds should be the preferred standard for all women's fights.**Please NOTE: that there are only 7 or 8
fighters in some weight divisions, yet there may be
as many as 20 in other weight divisions. However,
there may be no more difference between #1 and # 7 in one division
and #1 and #20 in another division.
12. In order to avoid confusion, and possible identification
problems the WIKBA does not rank any fighter
by "ring names", nicknames" or by first name only.
No exceptions will be made, so please don't ask.
Any fighter ranked by the WIKBA is deemed by the
WIKBA to possess better than average skills.
WIKBA ratings are not a prediction by the WIKBA
as to the probable outcome of a fight between any
two ranked individuals. Therefore; they should not be used
to predict the outcome of fights-as they were not
formulated with that goal in mind.
The WIKBA ratings are an evaluation of the fight records
of the individuals rated.
The WIKBA welcomes questions about our ratings.
A. General Rules:
1. Length of title fights. All WIKBA title fights will be a minimum of 5 rounds in length.
Oriental rules (K-1 rules) or International rule fights may last as long as 10 rounds.
2. Rest periods. Either a one or a two minute rest period between rounds may be permitted.
3. Three minute rounds for women are mandatory for WIKBA title fights.4. Finality of decisions. The discretionary decisions of judges and referees are considered final.
5. Appeals. there shall be no appeal of any discretionary decisions by judges or referees.
6. Referees and judges. The WIKBA does not furnish referees or judges, but the WIKBA
representative will assist referees and judges, if requested to do so.
7. Any WIKBA rules which contradict the laws, rules or regulations of the legal
governing body for the country, city, province, prefecture, county, state, or locality
or commission where the fight takes place, will not be enforced.
8. All WIKBA title holders are expected to defend their titles once every 24
months, commencing from the month and day they first won their WIKBA title.
Failure to defend a WIKBA title within 24 months may result in the title holder being
stripped of her title, and the title declared vacant.
9. Tie breaker rules for title fights: Vacant WIKBA titles may not be won on a majority draw
by the fighter getting one winning score from one of the three judges. No current
Title holder shall lose her WIKBA title based on a majority draw. In lieu of a majority draw
winner for a vacant title, extra rounds must be fought until a clear winner is determined on
the scorecards. If after two extra rounds have been fought, and there is still a majority
draw, only then shall the fight shall be ruled a majority draw.10. No contests. The WIKBA will declare a no contest only under the following conditions:
a. A fighter is injured by an intentional foul (as determined by the referee) and cannot continue.b. If the foul is determined by the referee to be unintentional,
the referee shall declare the fight to be over, and the winner will be determined from the
score cards including scores from the incomplete round up to the point when the fight was stopped.
c. If a fighter is injured accidentally, in any manner whatsoever, other than by a
foul committed by her opponent, and cannot continue, her opponent shall be declared
the winner by TKO.
d. A fight shall be held to have taken place as soon as the first contact is initiated
by either of the two fighters after the bell for the beginning of the first round has sounded.
11.(d) At the weigh-in, no fighter may wear long trousers, or any other
garment that contains pockets, or that is otherwise loose fitting enough to conceal weighted objects
which could increase the weight of the fighter and aid her in making weight. Accordingly, fighters
also may not weigh in wearing shoes, socks, or stockings of any kind. If a fighter needs to remove all
clothing in order to make weight, she may request the area be cleared of all unessential male personnel
such as spectators, reporters, event sponsors, male fighters, trainers or any other persons not absolutely
essential to the weigh-in procedure.
11.(e) There can only be one official weigh-in. However, a fighter has an absolute right to be present at,
and in a position to physically witness the weigh-in of her opponent if she so requests. However, any
fighter making such a demand, must also be willing to re-submit to a second weigh-in on the same
scales, and in the presence of her opponent, to be conducted at the same time of necessary
to afford her opponent the same privilege to witness her weigh-in. Such a second
weigh-in if conducted, will then be deemed to be her amended official weight-if she has previously
weighed in out of the presence of her opponent. Otherwise, the date and time, type of scales,
and other procedures of the official weigh-in shall be at the sole discretion of the event promoter
subject to the provisions of this article.12. Fighter safety. No person who is pregnant may fight in a WIKBA sanctioned fight.
No fighter may participate in a WIKBA title fight without all the mandatory health screening
which is required by the laws in the locality where the fight shall take place. The WIKBA
does not presume to be medically qualified to dictate to local commissions which medical tests
or examinations are necessary. However, no person who has tested HIV positive, or who has
tested positive for hepatitis A, B, C, or D, or who has visible cold sores may fight in a WIKBA
title fight-unless cleared in writing by their personal physician or a physician acting on behalf
of the state athletic commission.
See also WIKBA general rules # A-7
The examining physician or ring physician may at his /her discretion, disqualify a fighter
based on visible cold sores. No person who has tested positive for substances prohibited by the World or the US anti doping
agency within 72 hours before or after a fight is eligible to win a WIKBA title in said fight.
Such a fight shall be null and void for WIKBA Title purposes.
13. No person who has been knocked out may fight in a WIKBA sanctioned fight until
sixty (60) calendar days have elapsed from the time said person was knocked out. The time
period shall be thirty (30) days for a Technical knockout. (TKO)B. FIGHT RULES

a). roundhouse type kicks are allowed to any part of the leg except for the knee.
b). shin guards and foot covers are not allowed to be used. Anklets are permitted.
c). Thai shorts are encouraged. No long pants are permitted.

d). knee strikes are permitted to the head and body
e). limited neck wrestling is allowed.
f). Continuously holding the kicking leg of an opponent is judged as a foul.
However, a single attack, while holding the leg is authorized. Continuous attack
while holding a leg is a foul. If a fighter does not take any action while holding
the kicking leg, the referee shall call a break. Holding the kicking leg and using
a throwing technique is also a foul.
g). steps while holding the leg is permitted for three steps only. After three
steps a strike must be attempted. A fighter may not continuously hold the leg
and attack.
h). rounds must be 3 minutes in length, except where local commissions prohibit.
i). World title fights are 5 rounds of three minutes duration rest periods may be
one or two minutes duration..
j.) Muay Thai title bouts are normally 5 rounds-but may be six or more rounds upon

(A-9)3. THAI STYLE RULES
Thai rules follow the Oriental rules except for the following:
a). knees may be permitted to the head
b). elbow strikes are permitted,
c). the spinning elbow, or reverse elbow is NOT permitted
d). catching the legs is permitted.
e). Thai rules may be modified by contractual agreement, or local laws to
disallow elbows or knees to the head.
C. FOULS
The term foul implies deliberate intent. Therefore for a tactic to
be judged a foul, and penalized as such, the referee must first determine
that an illegal tactic was both deliberate and intentional. All referee decisions on
this issue are deemed to be final.
Fouls include:1. Head butting. A fight stopped due to head butt, in the first or second
round shall be declared a no-contest. A fight stopped in the third round or
after, will be decided based on the scorecards including the round when the fight
was stopped. Unless the head butt is judged intentional. An intentional head butt
or other foul, which prompts the ring doctor to stop the fight will result in a disqualification.
No WIKBA title will be won, or lost on a disqualification.2. Striking with the elbow or knee. Except where knee strikes to the head or
torso are allowed under Oriental and Thai Rules. Thai rules may permit more
extensive use of elbows and knees. K-1 rules prohibit elbows to the head.
3. Strikes or kicks to the groin. Under Oriental and Thai Rules, roundhouse
type kicks are allowed to the entire leg, excluding the knee joint or kneecap.
Thai Rules also allow hook kicks to the target areas of the legs.
4. Regarding the spinning back fist: this technique must be executed with the
padded knuckle section of the glove. A spinning back-fist attempt that lands
with the elbow may result in a penalty; any successive attempts that land with
the elbow should result in a penalty, or disqualification.-at the referee's sole |
discretion.
5. Punching or kicking a fighter when she is down. A fighter is considered down
when any part of her body other than her feet touch the floor. If a fighter is on her
way to the floor, her opponent may continue to attack until she has touched the
floor with any part of her body other than her feet.
6. Take downs or leg reaps, other than legal sweeps.
7. Intentionally pushing, shoving or wrestling an opponent to the canvas or out
of the ring with any part of the body.
8. Attacking on the break when both fighters have been instructed to take a step
back by the referee.
9. Attacking after the bell has sounded to end the round.
10. Holding and hitting; ie, holding with one hand, and hitting with the other hand.
However, under Oriental Rules, limited "neck wrestling" is permitted for the purpose of
executing knee strikes to the front or sides of the torso- provided that a fighter is
attempting legal knee strikes under Oriental Rules, a fighter may continue a
"neck wrestling" strategy, until the referee determines that more than five seconds
has elapsed since the last knee strike attempt, or there is other reason to break the
fighters. Thai Rules place no time limit on "neck wrestling", permitting the referee
to break the fighters at his or her discretion.
11. Holding the ropes with one hand while striking or defending with the other
hand or the legs.
12. Purposely going down without being hit may result in referee administering an
eight count, in which case, the judges will consider this a knockdown.13.The use of abusive language in the ring or corner, as determined by the referee.
14. Intentionally causing a delay of the fight through use of improper equipment,
corner men remaining in the ring after the start of the round, beginning a round
without a mouthpiece, or by intentionally dropping or spitting out the mouthpiece, etc.15. during a clinch, if the referee calls for a break, and a fighter taps her opponent on the shoulder,
speaks to her opponent, or otherwise verbally or non verbally communicates in a manner calculated
to induce her opponent to drop her guard, and then strikes her unguarded opponent, the fight shall
be judged a no contest, if the opponent is unable to continue.
NOTE : A fighter who commits what the referee believes to be an intentional
foul may be disqualified at the referees discretion.
D. Stoppages and no contests:
1. A no contest occurs when a fighter is injured by a foul committed by her opponent,
whether intentional or unintentional, if as a result of that foul she is judged by the physician,
or referee, to be unable to continue.
A fighter injured under such circumstances may request a brief recuperation period, if she
wishes to continue. The length of such recuperation period will be determined by the referee
in charge- Unless overruled by the ring doctor for medical reasons, such as a cut.
see also FOULS: C.15
2. When a ring doctor decides it is medically unwise for a fighter to continue due to any
injury received during the fight, the opponent will be declared the winner by technical
knockout. (TKO)
3. If a fighter is injured at any point during a fight, for any other reason than a rules violation
by her opponent, or unauthorized objects in the ring, and cannot continue, her opponent
will be declared the winner by technical Knockout. (TKO) A fight is presumed to be valid
after the bell sounds for the first round.
as soon as one or both of the fighters has actually physically touched her opponent.
The traditional mutual reaching out and touching of gloves is not considered physically
touching for purposes of this rule.
4. If a fighter is injured by a slip or fall due to water, stools, towels, or other unauthorized
objects in the ring, and cannot continue, the fight shall be deemed a no contest. Except
